The beginners Cantonese course was a very helpful introduction not only to Cantonese, but also to Hong Kong and its culture. The teacher tailored the course so that I could benefit from learning more relevant language skills for my situation.

The activities that the students can be involved in outside of the regular classes has allowed me to meet a number of interesting people from all walks of life, which is invaluable to someone new to Hong Kong. This time, I was introduced by a friend to learn Cantonese with Ms. Joyce from the Hong Kong Modern Language Centre, and I had a great time. The teacher teaches seriously, and the class atmosphere is harmonious and relaxed. Since I was a child, I wanted to be able to speak English authentically and fluently, but because I grew up in a Chinese environment and was afraid to speak English, my spoken English has always been at a lower middle level. Since I came to the Modern Language Centre in Hong Kong, I have gradually started to speak English under the careful guidance of my teachers. The teachers here are from English-speaking countries, and I not only learned speaking skills, but also learned a lot about Western culture through the teacher's sharing. Now, I am slowly getting used to communicating with foreign friends in English, and I am not so timid, so I am very grateful to the teachers at the Hong Kong Modern Language Centre!

The Cantonese course level 1 at “Hong Kong Modern Language Centre” is an excellent course. Every time I go to class, I really enjoy Joyce's pre-class chat, I like to call it tea time. The course does not teach rigid written language, but uses Cantonese that is close to daily life, and at the same time inserts a lot of topics such as local culture. At that time, I was still confused about looking for a job, and I was introduced by a friend to the Hong Kong Modern Language Centre, where my teacher Clara tailored the interview English course content for me according to my requirements, and conducted mock interview coaching for me during the class. Carefully correcting my accent and grammar issues laid a good foundation for my future job interviews.
